Community Emergency Response Team
Many people across our
state and country have asked how they can play a role in
making our country a stronger, safer and healthier place
to live, work and raise a family. The first step
in doing this begins at home, in our neighborhoods and
communities. By building stronger, safer and
healthier neighborhoods, we in turn build a more secure
nation.
This
security can be accomplished through the CERT program.
CERT provides volunteers with the training in emergency
preparedness and basic disaster response techniques so
that they can take an active part in the safety of their
families and the people in their neighborhood, work
place or schools in a time of crisis.
CERT
members can help their community prepare, endure and
recover; in the event of either manmade or natural
disasters by using their training obtained with the
cooperation of local emergency organizations such as law
enforcement, EMS, fire departments and volunteer groups.
The CERT members respond only when requested and the
program is not meant to replace existing emergency
organization, but to supplement them in the event of a
disaster.
